Enjoy a refined St. Patty’s Day near our apartments in Dallas’ West Village.

It’s mid-March in Dallas, which means we’re all about to become Irish for a day. St. Patrick’s Day is more about having a good time with friends and enjoying a spirited beverage or two than delving into cultural reflection. This year, bring a touch more sophistication to your enjoyment of the day at Ardan. It’s the ideal place to take the typical green plastic hat and leprechaun experience to a higher level. The name ‘Ardan’ actually has Gaelic roots which makes the annual celebration of Irish culture not only fitting here, but also gives us a good reason to expand our repertoire with ways to recognize the day beyond the boisterous norms.

Whiskey

St. Patrick’s Day is famous, or rather notorious, for being an occasion for liberal imbibing. This year, consider passing on the bright green paraphernalia and pitch black pints for more spirited options. The Irish take pride in their whiskey, and rightly so. Irish whiskey can be as complex and enjoyable as your favorite bourbon or scotch, delivering a truly enlightening experience for anyone who enjoys a dram now and again. Here are a few options to get a feel for the style and help you order more quickly at a busy bar.

Jameson | Bushmills | Powers

If you’ve had any experience with Irish whiskey in the past, it was likely with one of these three. The standard offerings are probably best used as mixers, but each brand has premium labels that would be good to try sipping neat or with an ice cube to get the full flavor experience.

The Dead Rabbit Irish Whiskey

The name is guaranteed to spark speculation on its origin, and this selection is worth its place in your hand or liquor cabinet based solely on its marvelously designed bottle, a mix of old-world looks and modern attitude. Beyond that, this reasonably priced blend is great for cocktails and offers a spicy counterpoint to your favorite mixers.

Redbreast 15 Year Old

Velvety smooth with just enough oak influence to balance the fruity notes, Redbreast 15 is most definitely a sipping whiskey to enjoy neat or with a splash of water. For the whiskey lover, this is a superb diversion from your usual whiskeys. A glass of Redbreast 15 would pair very nicely with a buttery-soft leather chair in the Ardan lounge.

Toasts

If you are celebrating with friends, you will need a variety of toasts to use throughout the day. Here are a few of our favorites.

Sláinte

Pronounced “slawn CHA”, this is Irish Gaelic for “to your health” and is a go-to for a quick and informal “cheers”.

For the more ambitious:

May you have all the happiness and luck that life can hold—
And at the end of all your rainbows may you find a pot of gold.

May the saddest day of your future be no worse than the happiest day of your past.

May you live as long as you want and never want as long as you live!

May you never forget what is worth remembering or remember what is best forgotten.

And for a personal touch, make your own toast to show you care about those you are toasting to. After all, St. Patrick’s Day is the perfect time to connect further with friends and family.

Take the opportunity to explore the subtleties of this celebratory day that can get lost in the revelry. And for a great place to delve into the finer points of anything, head to the West Village and take a tour of Ardan apartments in Uptown Dallas.
